Earth's systems are coupled. The Sun's wind touches the crust. The Moon's gravity biases faults. Temperature inversions trap pollutants. Tides modulate waves. Drought feeds wildfire. These connections are real, measurable, and worth measuring honestly.
TerraPulse exists to measure the planet as it actually is. We ingest environmental data from government and scientific instruments across every domain — seismology, solar physics, meteorology, oceanography, volcanology, hydrology, and beyond. One rule governs what comes in: it must be a measurement of something that physically happened. No models, no forecasts, no projections — only the raw numbers straight off the instruments.
Everything becomes a Dex
We don't pour those readings into one averaged pool. Every measurement lands in a Dex — an indexed catalog where each entry is a single real thing: one earthquake, one hurricane, one monitoring station, one satellite. As new readings arrive they accrete onto that entry's own record, so a Dex slot is a living dossier of one object over time, never smoothed into a summary or a trend line, always traceable back to the instrument that recorded it.
Today that's roughly seventy measured data streams, organized into seven Dex families — events, years, places, celestial objects, moving platforms, and more — drawn from about forty-six sources. Each new dex is one more corner of the planet held to the same standard.
What separates us
Dashboards show you what happened. We show you what's connected, and where the story is more complicated than the headline — with p-values, Bonferroni corrections, and honest null results. When a finding doesn't hold up, we say so. The null is the finding.
When our initial analysis found solar wind correlated with earthquakes at r=0.54, we didn't publish — we backfilled six months of data and watched the effect shrink to r=0.09. That correction is the science. The wave function collapses one honest analysis at a time.
How it works
Measure
We ingest only measured reality — raw instrument readings from government and scientific networks worldwide, on a schedule. If it's a model output, it doesn't come in.
Organize
Every reading becomes a Dex entry — one real object per slot, a living dossier that grows with each new measurement, every datum traceable to its source.
Investigate
The Lab and the editorial team ask what's connected across domains — with real statistics, effect sizes, and sensitivity checks, and equal skepticism for the exciting results and the boring ones.
Publish
Findings ship as reproducible papers. The math is open, the code is on GitHub, and the nulls are reported as loudly as the hits.
The Data Garden
We call TerraPulse the Data Garden — where datasets cross-pollinate. Michael plants the seeds (URLs to government data sources). The fetcher waters them (ingestion). The Lab cross-pollinates them. Every new dataset makes the existing ones more valuable.
Sunspots from 1818 meet earthquakes from 2021 meet tornadoes from 1950 meet gravitational wave mergers from 2015 meet fireballs from 1998 meet the Keeling Curve from 1974. No single discipline would put these in the same database. We did. And the connections we found surprised us.
The truth we're collapsing toward
Earth systems are coupled. The coupling is measurable. And measured honestly — nulls and all — the record tells us more than any forecast could: not what might happen, but what actually did.
